Redesigning society
think tank applying social sciences
If the society were to be redesigned, what would we want to change?
Redesigning Society addresses the most important societal themes in an open-minded, solution-focused, innovative and cyclical manner.
The think tank is a platform for free but solution-focused discussion, where even bold ideas and openings are taken seriously. The think tank's activities are open to everyone interested in developing society.
Based on the discussions, working groups are formed to develop the ideas that emerged in the discussions into practice, into social experiments. The working groups meet at their own pace and promote their chosen topic as a project or campaign. Participation in the think tank does not require commitment to the working group or investment in the continuity of the activities, but it is of course very welcome!
The think tank's events are accessible and ideology-free. There is a 10 euro entrance fee to the events, but if your financial situation is tight, you can participate without paying. Meetings are held weekly in Helsinki, in an easily accessible location. Register here! You will receive more detailed information in response.
Recurring themes
Redesigning society
At the think tank, we examine society more deeply than usual political analysis. We strive to see the current situation without prejudice and question even entrenched institutions. A special perspective is brought to the discussions by the observation that the various structures and practices of society are not immutable, but can – and should – be redesigned.
Based on reflection, analysis, dreaming and visioning, we assemble working groups around each theme, that set out to work on bold solution proposals for issues requiring redesign.
But in order to get to the solutions, we first need to see clearly where we are going right now and how we got to where we are today. What values, attitudes, and intentions have driven those who have shaped society? And above all: what would we change if we woke up to see things from a fresh angle?
Community
The big questions of our time! It is clear that the state of community has changed dramatically in our culture in a very short time. Loneliness, meaninglessness and alienation torment many, and a longing for something lost is clearly in the air. If we looked ahead, what kind of social life would we want, and how could it be achieved?
School system
To what extent has the school become a child care facility?
How could we move from attempting to pour information onto students to developing expertise and understanding? How could we support children's integration into society?
What should we teach children about life?
Political system
How big of a problem is the current system of party politics really?
What can be done in a democracy to address the dominance of the economy in national decision-making?
The distance between citizens and decision-making is absurdly large. What are the ways to really get civil society going and get people involved and active in society?
Voting practices, public spending, different models of democracy, etc., etc.
Work
Some have too much, others too little. A lot of unnecessary and harmful work is done, and at the same time, critically important jobs are not available or at least not covered by financial compensation. Guidance into working life and employment support are in a terrible state - how can all this be fixed?
The culture of human growth
Religions have held a monopoly on human growth for a very long time. Is it time to move on?
But does the current alternatives based a materialistic psychological worldview enable a culture of genuine growth? What would a vibrant culture of growth look like without any ideologies or belief systems?
